Our parish festival this year and in the many years to come needs to be a great success for our parish. This event has always been a time when the community comes together to enjoy some good time together in the midst of many fun activities and good food. But it also takes on the role of being an event that will bring much needed funds for the parish. We will soon embark on a Capital Campaign with our sight on the future and hopefully, in the not-so-distant future. We are also considering purchasing the property across the street. 1.  We took 53 young people to the Franciscan Retreat: Assisi on the Chesapeake. It was a great experience. We first went to Washington DC where we spent the day at a couple of museums and went to see the National Cathedral. The second day was spent at Hershey Park. That was a lot of fun. Then, we traveled to the retreat in Maryland from Friday afternoon until Sunday. As soon as we arrived at St. Julia at 11:30 pm, the heavens opened up and we were hit with a severe storm, but we have no complaints. Parish Retreats and Spiritual Formation Two weeks ago I wrote in “From the heart” that I would like to provide parish retreats and spiritual formation presentations and workshops for our spiritual growth and development. Now, I would like to take a step forward towards making this a reality at St. Julia. I would like to form two Parish Retreat and Spiritual Formation Committees. One for the Spanish-speaking members of our community and another for the English-speaking members. These committees will be responsible for identifying themes for retreats, presentations, workshops, finding the directors and presenters, scheduling the events, and arranging the day(s) of the event. When I asked the parish community about going forward with our Master Plan, the overwhelming answer was to go forward. So, Forward We Go! The Master Plan Committee interviewed three architectural firms and chose one to present to the Finance Council and the Pastoral Council. With the approval of the Pastor, both Councils agreed with the recommendation of the Master Plan Committee and now the cost for the Master Plan, schematic and elevation design, and the civil/site sketch plan will go before the Finance Council for approval. Once the Finance Council approves paying the cost, it will go to the Diocese for final approval. The cost will be $40,000.00. It is important to realize that without this, we cannot move forward.
