A Reflection / Una reflexión

A Reflection on Last Friday’s Contemplative Prayer Time Please allow me to say that it was wonderful to see so many of you come to spend time in contemplative prayer. I’m so glad you had the experience. If this was the first time you had this prayer experience and were left wondering a few things, let me see if I can address them. Perhaps you couldn’t quiet your mind. Don’t worry about it. If you keep returning to the silence with the help of the word or phrase every time you put yourself in contemplative prayer, your mind will slowly calm down with time. Practice makes perfect, as they say. Perhaps you caught yourself praying in the usual way that you pray instead of letting the peace of the...

Thinking of You / Pensando en ti

Thinking of You, Thanking You, Praying for You You know how life is. There’s so much to attend to that sometimes we forget to say what really matters. So, this week I’m not going to write about anything in particular except to thank all of you for your generosity with your parish community. I’m very grateful to you.  We are witnessing an increase in our Sunday collection, and I want to say thank you as quickly as possible. Soon, the Future Build Committee will present you with the Master Plan of the Parish. It’s quite ambitious, but the future doesn’t belong to the feeble. The future belongs to those with vision, commitment, and trust in God and in one another. And that’s us. As a small token of my...

An Act of Faith in Many Ways / Un acto de fe en muchos sentidos

An Act of Faith in Many Ways. There’s Nothing to Fear. Last week our Future Build Committee presented our parish’s Master Plan to the Diocese. It was approved and we now await the final approval from the Bishop. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Future Build Committee, under the direction of Mr. David Walters, for the excellent work it has done to bring our parish to this point in our history. The other members of our committee are: Mr. Richard Szary, Mrs. Melton Hardy-Powell, Mr. Greg Lask, Mr. William Cotton, Mr. Ron Badone, and Mr. Silvano Sotelo Martínez. I am very grateful to these generous and gifted individuals for their wisdom and dedication in their service to our parish family. From the...

From the Heart of Your Pastor / Desde el Corazón de su Párroco

From the Heart of Your Pastor My dear sisters and brothers, this week I speak directly to our immigrant sisters and brothers of St. Julia. I invite everyone else to read along and to allow yourselves to be clothed in compassion and understanding. To the Immigrant Community of St. Julia, The majority of us immigrants have not come to this country because it was our dream to do so. In many ways, life and circumstances have contributed to our decision to come here. But, for a majority of us, it was never our deepest desire nor dream to leave family behind together with everything that was familiar and dear to us. In some ways, the opportunities that do not exist in our own countries of origin, we have...

Love Compels Us / El amor nos obliga

Love Compels Us There are moments that love compels us to go beyond our comfort zone and challenge us to open wide our hearts and minds for the sake of love itself. To walk together in mutual support with those who find life burdensome is always a testament to the love that we profess to have for God and a witness to our belief that the love for God must be practiced in the love we demonstrate for one another. To “love God with all our mind, with all our soul and with all our strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves” is the fulfillment of the Law and of the message of Jesus Christ. Having stated this, we move on to recognize the fact that...
