Help Me to Hang On! ¡Ayúdame a aguantar!

Help Me to Hang On! My good people, our beautiful parish family continues to grow and so do your spiritual and social needs. There is only one bit of bad news in all of this: As we grow, I remain one. Let me be honest with you. I have a new health issue. That’s what happens when you’re getting older. Not much to worry about for now and I want to keep it that way. I just need to slow down a bit and that requires me to make some adjustments to my work schedule and here is where I need your understanding. From now on, I will not be available for evening appointments. All appoint-ments with me will have to be between 9:00 am and 4:00pm...

Talk to me, Please / Háblame por favor

To Our English-Speaking People that Worship in English Hi! I try not to use the terms “English-speaking community and Spanish-speaking community” because here at St. Julia we are just One Community who speak many languages. The Spanish-speaking people who worship in Spanish is a much larger group. Are they more important than the English-speaking people who worship in English? Absolutely not! Everyone here at St. Julia is equally welcomed, loved, appreciated, respected, and needed. That’s who we are: a bunch of wonderful Catholics of diverse backgrounds and abilities who dare to create and recreate One Community of Believers with the hope of getting to know one another and become friends too. What a wonderful thing to be a part of! But it’s very challenging for this pastor and because of...

A Little Bit / Un Poco

A Little Bit of This and a Little Bit of That There’s a lot going on at our parish. Let me share with you what is going on: Our faith formation classes are in session again and we have a total of 195 children, teenagers, young adults and adults enrolled. Our catechists receive our gratitude for being so faithful. I also want to thank the parents for their dedication in bringing their children to our faith formation program. Our newly formed Finance Council has met twice now, and I welcome their desire to serve the parish community. They have approved the financial plan for Phase 1 of the Master Plan and now we move to presented to the Diocese and to the Franciscan Province of Our...

Christian Maturity / Madurez Cristiana

Christian Maturity I was a middle school teacher for quite a few years. It’s by a miracle that I still have any hair left on my head. The principal of the school would describe a middle school as “the land of inappropriate responses.” And indeed, it is. Immaturity has the knack in creating inappropriate responses in any circumstance. Middle schoolers taught me that if I can survive them, I can survive a nuclear disaster! Have you ever tried to knock some sense into a middle schooler? Did it leave you feeling that the only words your child heard you say was: “I’m not going to tell you again!” Did you need a couple of Tylenols or a Valium after that experience? You have to understand that at that age...

Thank You! ¡Gracias!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!! Dear Good People of St. Julia, I want to thank everyone who worked and contributed to making our Parish Festival a great success. I am so grateful and proud of all of us. In a very special way I want to thank and congratulate Yasmin, who is the leader, motivator, organizer and everything else that is required to create the Parish Festival. From day one, Yasmin has proven to be a great leader and servant of our parish family. I greatly admire her ideas, her organizational skills, commitment, and never tiring attitude. Yasmin, we are very grateful for your service to our community, and we pray that God may bless you with abundant blessings and love. Thank you! Depending on the final count...
