St. Francis of Assisi and St. Julia / San Francisco de Asís y Santa Julia

St. Francis of Assisi and St. Julia These are the two other images that will adorn our sanctuary soon. St. Francis of Assisi, the man of God and of the poor. And St. Julia, our patroness. The St. Francis image is the one that the parish community voted for the most. I chose this image of St. Julia because it shows her on the cross. She was crucified by the man who she refused for the sake of her honor and faith. Rarely do we see a woman on a cross. St. Julia is a powerful intercessor, as I have come to experience during my eight years here. Many have been the prayers granted through her intercession. It is my hope that you will come to experience the...

Peace Paz

Peace To speak on behalf of peace and to condemn war is what decent people do. To stand up for peace and to put the authors of war in their place is the work of courageous descent people. To be a voice for peace is to be Christian. To be a voice for peace has never been easy and blessed are they, as Jesus said. So now, politicians are condemning the Pope’s words on behalf of peace because they don’t like it. Well, why don’t they like it? Why wouldn’t people of good will like when a spiritual leader speaks up for the good of humanity? What’s wrong with that? And why do they consider it political? The defensiveness that we’re witnessing is absolutely absurd. It’s easy to see through it to the...

He Has Risen! ¡Jesús ha resucitado!

Jesus Has Risen! He Will Always Rise. For He is Alive And He is Our Salvation. May the joy and the hope of our risen Christ be yours always so that you can take them with you to your homes and families. May Christ rise in your lives! You are in my prayers and in my heart. Happy Easter. ¡Felices Pascuas! Fray Julio...

The Holiest of Weeks La Semana más Santa

The Holiest of Weeks I think that the best spiritual guidance I can share with you, my dear sisters and brothers, is to try to be attentive as much as you possibly can to the events in Jesus’ life that we remember this week. Do what you can to be aware of Jesus’ passion and all the reasons (the life and example) that took Jesus to these events. Pick up your bibles, open them to the Gospel passages that recount the events of Jesus’ last few days. Bring them to life in your minds and in your hearts. Please do what you can to join the community in the various liturgical services during Holy Week. Let them nourish your spiritual life and strengthen your faith and love for God. We...
