A Few New Things

Spiritual Growth and Formation

Soon I will announce new initiatives and opportunities that we will have available in our parish or our spiritual growth and formation. These new opportunities will be for adults, young adults, high school youth, and our younger children. It is my hope that you will
participate in these new opportunities. We can’t just leave things as they are. If we are to grow as a community and as a community of faith, we need to be attentive to the needs of all in our community. For example: We need to develop activities in English for young English-speaking families who are and will be joining the parish. We simply need to reach out to everyone and respond to our present and future. Another example is the need to reach out to our youth and offer them opportunities and experiences that will help them develop strong Christian friendships and help them in their spiritual growth so that they root their lives in Christian values and
principles that will carry them into their futures. Finally, there will be new prayer experiences offered that will be of benefit for everyone in the parish.
When I announce these new initiatives, I will challenge all of you with the reality that it is up to all of us to make everything happen. I cannot do it alone. I am going to need the involvement of youth and adults to make it come true. So, I count on you to come forward and serve our parish family. As we continue to grow, so do the pastoral needs. We are in this together and it is my prayer that these new initiatives and experiences will be of great benefit to the entire parish family.

A New Way to Help Our Parish Groups

Up until now, all our parish groups that sponsor food sales have taken money out of their own pockets to provide the food that is sold. This now changes. I have set aside a certain amount of money that will make it possible for every group to be reimbursed for the food that is bought for the food sales. Groups are now required to turn in the receipts for the food items that are bought. Each group will be reimbursed. I will meet with each group and give more detailed information.

Why am I doing this? For two reasons: First, because you are so generous. You always have been. You’ve taken money out of your own pockets for every food sale we’ve had. I know that you have done it with all the love in the world. But I want to take care of you in every way possible and show my gratitude for your generosity and sacrifice. Secondly, because once we begin our Capital Campaign, the entire parish community will have to work very hard and work together so that we can move into the future. The construction of a new building and an addition to our present church will be very expensive. I am going to need everyone to come together and work hard to raise the funds. Thus, I do not nor should I expect you to be taking money out of pocket for all these fund-raising events.

Please let me be generous with you and allow me to show you my gratitude in this way. In the past, you have always denied me this opportunity to help you in this way. I ask you now to help me help you as more will be required of all of us. Putting it another way, I don’t want any discussion on this. It’s done. The money has been set aside for the benefit of those who are always so good and generous with our parish family. I assure you that once we start our Capital Campaign you will thank me for this.
Please, trust me on this.

The Parish Master Plan

The Future Build Committee has continued to be very dedicated and diligent in their responsibility in working with the architects in formulating the Parish Master Plan. Everything continues on schedule and in January we will go before the Diocese for approval of the Master Plan. It is a rather ambitious plan based on what we have discerned about the future of the parish in a growing area. The entire plan is to be built in phases according to our actual needs. The process has proven to be quite challenging since we need EVEYTHING. Discerning what we need to address first, then second, and down the line, is quite the challenge. Please continue to keep the members and the work of the Future Build Committee in your prayers.

For Your Information

It was my hope that the addition of a third Spanish Mass on Saturday evening would bring about 120 people to that Mass from the Spanish Sunday Masses. We are now averaging between 160 and 170 people at the Saturday Spanish Mass. And the Sunday Spanish Masses are again full with at least one beyond capacity. We are seeing a slight increase in the number of people attending the Saturday English Mass. The Sunday English Mass has now experienced a significant increase. We have about 260 people in faith formation this year. We are using our facility more than ever before since we have limited room. We have really outgrown our facility. Pray that a kind soul comes out of nowhere and deposits 40 million dollars in our bank account!

The Summer Franciscan Retreat in Maryland

This year we will not be going on the Franciscan retreat. I know that this is a disappointment for some of our youth. But, you see, we have been able to go on the retreat only with the financial help of the Franciscan Friars. I want to take a break this year out of respect for the financial help that the Franciscan Friars have given us and not ask for help this year. I dare to estimate that the Franciscan Friars have given us around $28,000.00 in financial help in the last two years. They have paid for the bus and some of our hotel accommodation. So, with gratitude in our hearts, we will take a break this year and the time will also help us to better organize the next trip to the Franciscan retreat. Perhaps with more preparation and greater sense of responsibility for ourselves, we can cover all our expenses on our next retreat.

Algunas novedades

Crecimiento y formación espiritual

Pronto anunciaré nuevas iniciativas y oportunidades que tendremos disponibles en nuestra parroquia para nuestro crecimiento y formación espiritual. Estas nuevas oportunidades serán para adultos, jóvenes adultos, jóvenes de secundaria y nuestros niños más pequeños. Tengo la esperanza de que participen en estas nuevas oportunidades. No podemos dejar las cosas como están. Si queremos crecer como comunidad y como comunidad de fe, debemos estar atentos a las necesidades de todos en nuestra comunidad. Por ejemplo: Necesitamos desarrollar actividades en inglés para familias jóvenes de habla inglesa que se están uniendo y se unirán a la parroquia. Simplemente necesitamos llegar a todos y responder a nuestro presente y futuro. Otro ejemplo es la necesidad de llegar a nuestros jóvenes y ofrecerles oportunidades y experiencias que los ayuden a desarrollar amistades cristianas sólidas y los ayuden en su crecimiento espiritual para que arraiguen sus vidas en valores y principios cristianos que los lle var án hacia su futuro. Finalmente, se ofrecerán nuevas experiencias de oración que serán de beneficio para todos en la parroquia.
Cuando anuncie estas nuevas iniciativas, los desafiaré a todos con la realidad de que depende de todos nosotros hacer que todo suceda. No puedo hacerlo solo. Voy a necesitar la participación de jóvenes y adultos para que se haga realidad. Por lo tanto, cuento con ustedes para que se presenten y sirvan a nuestra familia parroquial. A medida que continuamos creciendo, también lo hacen las necesidades pastorales. Estamos juntos en esto y es mi oración que estas nuevas iniciativas y experiencias sean de gran beneficio para toda la familia parroquial.

Una nueva forma de ayudar a nuestros grupos parroquiales

Hasta ahora, todos nuestros grupos parroquiales que patrocinan las ventas de alimentos han sacado dinero de sus propios bolsillos para proporcionar los alimentos que se venden. Esto ahora cambia. He reservado una cierta cantidad de dinero que hará posible que cada grupo reciba un reembolso por los alimentos que se compran para las ventas de alimentos. El Plan Maestro de la Parroquia

El Comité de Construcción del Futuro ha seguido siendo muy dedicado y diligente en su responsabilidad de trabajar con los arquitectos en la formulación del Plan Maestro de la Parroquia. Todo continúa según lo programado y en enero nos presentaremos ante la Diócesis para la aprobación del Plan Maestro. Es un plan bastante ambicioso basado en lo que hemos discernido sobre el futuro de la parroquia en un área en crecimiento. Todo el plan se construirá en fases de acuerdo con nuestras necesidades reales. El proceso ha demostrado ser bastante desafiante ya que necesitamos TODO. Discernir qué debemos abordar primero, luego segundo y más adelante es todo un desafío. Por favor, sigan manteniendo a los miembros y el trabajo del Comité de Construcción del Futuro en sus oraciones.

Tenía la esperanza de que la incorporación de una tercera misa en español el sábado por la noche atrajera a unas 120 personas de las misas dominicales en español. Ahora tenemos un promedio de entre 160 y 170 personas en la misa en español del sábado. Y las misas dominicales en español están nuevamente llenas con al menos una que supera la capacidad máxima. Estamos viendo un ligero aumento en el número de personas que asisten a la misa en inglés del sábado. La misa dominical en inglés ahora ha experimentado un aumento significativo. Tenemos alrededor de 260 personas en formación de fe este año. Estamos utilizando nuestras instalaciones más que nunca, ya que tenemos espacio limitado. Realmente hemos superado nuestras instalaciones. Oremos para que un alma bondadosa venga de la nada y nos deposite 40 millones de dólares en nuestra cuenta bancaria.

El retiro de verano franciscano en Maryland

Este año no iremos al retiro franciscano. Sé que esto es una decepción para algunos de nuestros jóvenes. Pero, verá, hemos podido ir al retiro sólo con la ayuda financiera de los frailes franciscanos. Quiero tomarme un descanso este año por respeto a la ayuda financiera que nos han dado los frailes franciscanos y no pedir ayuda este año. Me atrevo a calcular que los frailes franciscanos nos han dado alrededor de $28,000.00 en ayuda financiera en los últimos dos años. Han pagado el autobús y parte de nuestro alojamiento en el hotel. Así que, con gratitud en nuestros corazones, haremos una pausa este año y el tiempo también nos ayudará a organizar mejor el próximo viaje al retiro franciscano. Quizás con más preparación y un mayor sentido de responsabilidad por nosotros mismos, podamos cubrir todos nuestros gastos en nuestro próximo retiro.
