Have You Seen Jesus Lately? / ¿Has visto a Jesús últimamente?

Have you seen Jesus lately? Keep looking. Keep searching. Keep longing. Keep yearning. Happy Thanksgiving! You are in my prayers and in my heart. Peace and Good. Friar Julio ¿Has visto a Jesús últimamente? Sigue buscando. Sigue mirando. Sigue anhelando. ¡Feliz Día de Acción de Gracias! Estás en mis oraciones y en mi corazón. Paz y bien. Fray Julio...

Am I not here / Acaso no estoy aquí

“Am I not here, I who am your Mother?” She came to the people as a young girl with cinnamon color skin, dressed with the stars of the heavens, illumined by the sun, and with the moon under her feet. She appeared as one of her people at a time when her people needed to recognize her. In their moment of pain, She came to them and She has remained with them. They are us; we are them, we are Hers, and She is ours. This coming week on Wednesday the Torch of Guadalupe arrives at our parish and we welcome the light that has traveled from Her Temple, throughout Mexico and the United States. We welcome the love and the hope that the light of the flame from...

Does Anyone Else Feel Like This? / ¿Alguien más se siente así?

Does Anyone Else Feel Like This, or Am I the Only One? I have to be honest, I don’t like what’s going on in this country of ours. There is much that disturbs me to the core of my being. Is some of it political? Of course it is, but it’s not due to my association to a particular political party. It’s political because it simply is. It seems that everything is political these days and when it is not, someone makes it political. It seems to me like we’ve fallen in love with the division that politics can so easily create. I hate it all. It’s getting us nowhere good and I see the ugliness of it all keep getting stronger. As pastor, I struggle with...

Help Me to Hang On! ¡Ayúdame a aguantar!

Help Me to Hang On! My good people, our beautiful parish family continues to grow and so do your spiritual and social needs. There is only one bit of bad news in all of this: As we grow, I remain one. Let me be honest with you. I have a new health issue. That’s what happens when you’re getting older. Not much to worry about for now and I want to keep it that way. I just need to slow down a bit and that requires me to make some adjustments to my work schedule and here is where I need your understanding. From now on, I will not be available for evening appointments. All appoint-ments with me will have to be between 9:00 am and 4:00pm...

Talk to me, Please / Háblame por favor

To Our English-Speaking People that Worship in English Hi! I try not to use the terms “English-speaking community and Spanish-speaking community” because here at St. Julia we are just One Community who speak many languages. The Spanish-speaking people who worship in Spanish is a much larger group. Are they more important than the English-speaking people who worship in English? Absolutely not! Everyone here at St. Julia is equally welcomed, loved, appreciated, respected, and needed. That’s who we are: a bunch of wonderful Catholics of diverse backgrounds and abilities who dare to create and recreate One Community of Believers with the hope of getting to know one another and become friends too. What a wonderful thing to be a part of! But it’s very challenging for this pastor and because of...
