To Our English-Speaking People that Worship in English Hi! I try not to use the terms “English-speaking community and Spanish-speaking community” because here at St. Julia we are just One Community who speak many languages. The Spanish-speaking people who worship in Spanish is a much larger group. Are they more important than the English-speaking people who worship in English? Absolutely not! Everyone here at St. Julia is equally welcomed, loved, appreciated, respected, and needed. That’s who we are: a bunch of wonderful Catholics of diverse backgrounds and abilities who dare to create and recreate One Community of Believers with the hope of getting to know one another and become friends too. Let me share with you what is going on: Our faith formation classes are in session again and we have a total of 195 children, teenagers, young adults and adults enrolled. Our catechists receive our gratitude for being so faithful. I also want to thank the parents for their dedication in bringing their children to our faith formation program. Our newly formed Finance Council has met twice now, and I welcome their desire to serve the parish community. Christian Maturity I was a middle school teacher for quite a few years. It’s by a miracle that I still have any hair left on my head. The principal of the school would describe a middle school as “the land of inappropriate responses.” And indeed, it is. Immaturity has the knack in creating inappropriate responses in any circumstance. Middle schoolers taught me that if I can survive them, I can survive a nuclear disaster! Have you ever tried to knock some sense into a middle schooler? Did it leave you feeling that the only words your child heard you say was: “I’m not going to tell you again!” Did you need a couple of Tylenols or a Valium after that experience? Young People Are Awesome Christians On Sunday, September 7th, Pope Leo will declare that two young men, Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati are saints of the Catholic Church. Carlo died at the age of 15 after a struggle with leukemia and Pier Giorgio died at the age of 24 after contracting poliomyelitis. Both of these young men gave witness of their faith in their unique ways. They are an inspiration and an example for our youth. Their pictures will hang in our church when the church renovations are done. We will share information with you about these two young men.
