To Our English-Speaking People that Worship in English

Hi! I try not to use the terms “English-speaking community and Spanish-speaking community” because here at St. Julia we are just One Community who speak many languages.
The Spanish-speaking people who worship in Spanish is a much larger group. Are they more important than the English-speaking people who worship in English?
Absolutely not!

Everyone here at St. Julia is equally welcomed, loved, appreciated, respected, and needed. That’s who we are: a bunch of wonderful Catholics of diverse backgrounds and abilities who dare to create and recreate One Community of Believers with the hope of getting to know one another and become friends too.

What a wonderful thing to be a part of! But it’s very challenging for this pastor and because of that, and my desire to make sure that your parish is good and nourishing for you, I really need your help.

I’m speaking today directly to the English-speaking people that worship in English.

I’m sorry. I don’t read minds. I don’t have special powers. I don’t really know what you really want and need to be available to you in our parish besides what we already offer unless you tell me.
Please, come and talk with me and let me know what you desire to see happen here for you.
You see, I need your input so that I don’t initiate anything that you are either not interested in or don’t need.
Talk to me, please, and share your ideas and wants with me. Let me know your talents and interests.
Would you like to start a Catholic Women of St. Julia Wine-Tasting Sanctification Group, The League of Catholic Men Hunters, Catholic Plumbers and Steel Workers for World Peace, The St. Julia Rascals Skate-Boarding Tournament, Catholic Women Steamrollers in Support of the Poor, or The St. Julia Catholic Mamas Motorcycle Club? I’m totally open to new ideas.

As our parish family continues to grow, we need to keep things interesting around here and we may need to go where we’ve never gone before. New ideas can be life-giving.
I want you to know that I’m not one of those people or pastors that says: “don’t rock the boat, why fix it if it ain’t broke, that’s the way we’ve always done it, challenges are not needed.”
Oh, Lord, spare me from being such a bore! As the parish family continues to grow and mature, so must the various opportunities in the parish also grow and mature.

So, talk to me, my dear people. Speak up and let’s have fun building something wonderful together.
I am also available to meet in your homes, a coffee place, or in a submarine. Just let me know. You can even keep it simple and grab me after Mass.

A Nuestra Comunidad Angloparlante que Celebra en inglés

¡Hola! Intento no usar los términos “comunidad angloparlante” y “comunidad hispanoparlante” porque aquí en Santa Julia somos una sola comunidad que habla muchos idiomas.
La comunidad hispanohablante que celebra su culto en español es un grupo mucho más grande. ¿Son más importantes que la comunidad angloparlante que celebra su culto en inglés?
¡Para nada!

Aquí en Santa Julia, todos somos igualmente bienvenidos, amados, apreciados, respetados y necesarios. Eso es lo que somos: un grupo de maravillosos católicos de diversos orígenes y capacidades que se atreven a crear y recrear una sola comunidad de creyentes con la esperanza de conocernos y también hacernos amigos.

¡Qué maravilloso ser parte de esto! Pero es un gran desafío para este párroco y, por eso, y por mi deseo de asegurarme de que su parroquia sea buena y enriquecedora para ustedes, realmente necesito su ayuda.

Hoy me dirijo directamente a la comunidad angloparlante que celebra su culto en inglés.

Lo siento. No leo la mente. No tengo poderes especiales. No sé realmente qué quieren ni necesitan que esté disponible en nuestra parroquia, además de lo que ya ofrecemos, a menos que me lo digas.
Por favor, ven a hablar conmigo y dime qué deseas que suceda aquí.
Verás, necesito tu opinión para no iniciar nada que no te interese o que no necesites.
Hablen conmigo, por favor, y compartan sus ideas y deseos. Cuéntenme sus talentos e intereses.
¿Te gustaría fundar un Grupo de Santificación de Cata de Vinos de las Mujeres Católicas de Santa Julia, la Liga de Cazadores de Hombres Católicos, Fontaneros y Trabajadores del Acero Católicos por la Paz Mundial, el Torneo de Patinetas de los Rascals de Santa Julia, las Mujeres Católicas Aplanadoras en Apoyo a los Pobres o el Club de Motociclistas de las Mamás Católicas de Santa Julia? Estoy totalmente abierto a nuevas ideas.

A medida que nuestra familia parroquial crece, necesitamos mantener el interés y quizás tengamos que ir a donde nunca antes hemos ido. Las nuevas ideas pueden ser vivificantes.
Quiero que sepan que no soy de esas personas ni de esos párrocos que dicen: “No hay que causar problemas, ¿para qué arreglarlo si no está roto? Así lo hemos hecho siempre, no hay que hacer retos”.
¡Oh, Señor, ¡líbrame de ser tan aburrido! A medida que la familia parroquial crece y madura, también deben crecer y madurar las diversas oportunidades en la parroquia.

Así que, queridos, hablen conmigo. Hablen y divirtámonos construyendo algo maravilloso juntos.
También estoy disponible para reunirme en sus casas, en una cafetería o en un submarino. Solo avísenme. Incluso pueden hacerlo de forma sencilla y contactarme después de misa.
