A Little Bit of This and a Little Bit of That

There’s a lot going on at our parish. Let me share with you what is going on:

1. Our faith formation classes are in session again and we have a total of 195 children, teenagers, young adults and adults enrolled. Our catechists receive our gratitude for being so faithful. I also want to thank the parents for their dedication in bringing their children to our faith formation program.
2. Our newly formed Finance Council has met twice now, and I welcome their desire to serve the parish community. They have approved the financial plan for Phase 1 of the Master Plan and now we move to presented to the Diocese and to the Franciscan Province of Our Lady of the Angels for their approval. Once we obtain the approval, we will move quickly to secure a general contractor to direct the project. The Adams Group will be the architects that will draw up the final plans.
3. The Finance Council will now move to create the Capital Campaign Committee that will direct the fund-raising efforts to address Phase 2 of the Master Plan, which is the construction (and remodeling) of the new multi-purpose parish social center, the new faith formation classrooms and offices, group meeting rooms, and parish offices.
4. Our parish community continues to grow. The 5:00 pm Saturday Mass is holding its own with the smallest of the mass congregations. There are between 150 and 180 people that attend the 7:00 pm Saturday Mass. The 8:00 am Sunday Mass is full. More and more people are attending the 10:00 am Sunday Mass. The 12:00 noon Sunday Mass is also full. Our weekend collections continue to slowly increase.
5. More and more young couples and families are joining the parish. The English-speaking community and the Spanish-speaking community are growing. The pastoral needs and demands are also growing.
6. Our youth, who attend the Youth Holy Hour and others, have accepted the challenge to witness their faith in school by wearing a special T-shirt that is being designed by one of our youth. We are in the process of organizing this “Witness of Faith.”
7. The plans for our church remodel continue to develop and we will see the changes in January with the help of many members from our parish community.
8. We will soon have another parish registration drive. It is important that everyone who consider St. Julia their home parish be registered as parishioners.
9. Some of our pews will soon be bolted to the floor and additional kneelers installed.
10. This year’s Guadalupe Celebrations will be scaled down for various reasons. We will keep all celebrations on parish grounds with the exception of running the Guadalupe torch to the next parish. We will soon share more details of our celebrations.
    • The Guadalupe Torch arrives at our parish on Thursday, November 13. That evening we will have a special Mass at 7:00. We will run the torch to the next parish on Friday, November 14. We will soon share more specific information with you.
    • I would like the running of the Guadalupe Torch to take special meaning this year. I invite our teenagers, young adults, and adults, who are United States Citizens to be the only ones who run the torch to the next parish. I would like you to carry the torch in honor of all those who do not feel safe these days in doing so. I want you to carry it in honor of your families and friends. We will run up to the county line only. We will not run in the neighboring county. I hope that many of you will respond and participate.
11. Planning and Organizational work continues in creating our Parish Security Committee. Mr. Jeff Hill will head the work of the Committee. Jeff and I will be approaching parishioners to become members of this Committee.
12. I invite parishioners to consider becoming members of our choirs. Special attention goes to the choir that usually plays at the 12:00 noon Sunday Masses.
13. Our limited spaces for meetings and other activities is getting tighter and there’s very little we can do about this challenge. I ask that all parish groups and ministries be as flexible and open minded as possible as we continue to grow.
14. The 4th Friday Holy Hour of Divine Mercy continues to be organized. I will let you know when we will start and how it will all work together.

Un Poco de Esto y un Poco de Aquello

Hay mucho que hacer en nuestra parroquia. Permítanme compartirles lo que está sucediendo:

1. Nuestras clases de formación en la fe han comenzado de nuevo y tenemos un total de 195 niños, adolescentes, jóvenes y adultos inscritos. Agradecemos a nuestros catequistas por su fidelidad. También quiero agradecer a los padres por su dedicación al traer a sus hijos a nuestro programa de formación en la fe.
2. Nuestro recién formado Consejo de Finanzas se ha reunido dos veces y celebro su deseo de servir a la comunidad parroquial. Han aprobado el plan financiero para la Fase 1 del Plan Maestro y ahora lo presentaremos a la Diócesis y a la Provincia Franciscana de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles para su aprobación. Una vez que obtengamos la aprobación, procederemos rápidamente a contratar a un contratista general para dirigir el proyecto. El Grupo Adams será el arquitecto que elaborará los planos finales.
3. El Consejo de Finanzas procederá ahora a crear el Comité de Campaña de Capital, que dirigirá la recaudación de fondos para la Fase 2 del Plan Maestro, que consiste en la construcción (y remodelación) del nuevo centro social parroquial multiusos, las nuevas aulas y oficinas de formación en la fe, las salas de reuniones grupales y las oficinas parroquiales.
4. Nuestra comunidad parroquial continúa creciendo. La misa del sábado a las 5:00 p. m. se mantiene firme, con la congregación más pequeña. Entre 150 y 180 personas asisten a la misa del sábado a las 7:00 p. m. La misa del domingo a las 8:00 a. m. está llena. Cada vez más personas asisten a la misa del domingo a las 10:00 a. m. La misa del domingo a las 12:00 p. m. también está llena. Nuestras colectas de fin de semana continúan aumentando gradualmente.
5. Cada vez más parejas y familias jóvenes se unen a la parroquia. La comunidad angloparlante e hispanohablante está creciendo. Las necesidades y demandas pastorales también están creciendo.
6. Nuestros jóvenes, que asisten a la Hora Santa Juvenil y a otras actividades, han aceptado el reto de dar testimonio de su fe en la escuela usando una camiseta especial diseñada por uno de nuestros jóvenes. Estamos organizando este “Testimonio de Fe”.
7. Los planes para la remodelación de nuestra iglesia siguen en desarrollo y veremos los cambios en enero con la ayuda de muchos miembros de nuestra comunidad parroquial.
8. Pronto tendremos otra campaña de inscripción parroquial. Es importante que todos los que consideran a Santa Julia como su parroquia se registren como feligreses.
9. Pronto se atornillarán algunas de nuestras bancas al suelo y se instalarán reclinatorios adicionales.
10. Las Celebraciones Guadalupanas de este año se reducirán por diversas razones. Todas las celebraciones se realizarán en la parroquia, con la excepción del paso de la antorcha guadalupana a la siguiente parroquia. Pronto compartiremos más detalles de nuestras celebraciones.
    • La Antorcha Guadalupana llega a nuestra parroquia el jueves 13 de noviembre. Esa noche tendremos una misa especial a las 7:00 p. m. El paso de la antorcha a la siguiente parroquia será el viernes 14 de noviembre. Pronto compartiremos información más específica con ustedes.
    • Quiero que el paso de la Antorcha Guadalupana tenga un significado especial este año. Invito a nuestros adolescentes, jóvenes y adultos, ciudadanos estadounidenses, a ser los únicos que pasen la antorcha a la siguiente parroquia. Me gustaría que llevaran la antorcha en honor a todos aquellos que no se sienten seguros al hacerlo estos días. Quiero que la lleven en honor a sus familias y amigos. Solo correremos hasta el límite del condado. No correremos en el condado vecino. Espero que muchos de ustedes respondan y participen.
11. Continúa el trabajo de planificación y organización para crear nuestro Comité de Seguridad Parroquial. El Sr. Jeff Hill dirigirá el trabajo del Comité. Jeff y yo estaremos contactando a los feligreses para que se conviertan en miembros de este Comité.
12. Invito a los feligreses a considerar unirse a nuestros coros. Se presta especial atención al coro que suele tocar en las misas dominicales de las 12:00 del mediodía.
13. Nuestros espacios limitados para reuniones y otras actividades son cada vez más limitados y hay muy poco que podamos hacer al respecto. Pido que todos los grupos y ministerios parroquiales sean lo más flexibles y receptivos posible a medida que continuamos creciendo.
14. Se sigue organizando la Hora Santa de la Divina Misericordia del cuarto viernes. Les avisaré cuándo empezaremos y cómo funcionará todo en conjunto.
