With this week’s second collection we will be able to accomplish our goal. Thank you so much! As you can see this weekend, the new carpeting has been installed on the sanctuary floor, and the baldacchino has been installed. There remains a number of other elements that still need to be done. St. Francis of Assisi and St. Julia These are the two other images that will adorn our sanctuary soon. St. Francis of Assisi, the man of God and of the poor. And St. Julia, our patroness. The St. Francis image is the one that the parish community voted for the most. I chose this image of St. Julia because it shows her on the cross. She was crucified by the man who she refused for the sake of her honor and faith. Rarely do we see a woman on a cross. St. Julia is a powerful intercessor, as I have come to experience during my eight years here. Many have been the prayers granted through her intercession. Peace To speak on behalf of peace and to condemn war is what decent people do. To stand up for peace and to put the authors of war in their place is the work of courageous descent people. To be a voice for peace is to be Christian. To be a voice for peace has never been easy and blessed are they, as Jesus said. So now, politicians are condemning the Pope’s words on behalf of peace because they don’t like it. Well, why don’t they like it? Why wouldn’t people of good will like when a spiritual leader speaks up for the good of humanity? What’s wrong with that? And why do they consider it political?
