“Here and There” / “Aquí y allá”

1.  We took 53 young people to the Franciscan Retreat: Assisi on the Chesapeake. It was a great experience. We first went to Washington DC where we spent the day at a couple of museums and went to see the National Cathedral. The second day was spent at Hershey Park. That was a lot of fun. Then, we traveled to the retreat in Maryland from Friday afternoon until Sunday. As soon as we arrived at St. Julia at 11:30 pm, the heavens opened up and we were hit with a severe storm, but we have no complaints. Everything went according to schedule, we had a great and rewarding time, and we returned safe and sound.

2. In last week’s “From the Heart” I spoke about retreats and workshops for our parish community. I’m ready to put together two groups that will organize and provide these retreats for the parish. One group will organize the Spanish retreats and the other group will organize the English retreats. If you are interested in serving the community by being a member of one of these committees, please call the office and offer your name and contact information. We can’t do it without you!

3. As I had informed you, this year we are taking a totally different approach to meeting our responsibility for the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. We have already started putting money toward meeting our goal. We will now begin a monthly second collection for the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. I ask you to be as generous as you possibly can. This second collection is part of the overall new way of raising the funds.

4. The Master Plan Committee is now ready to send to the Diocese our choice of the Architectural Firm we have chosen to work with. Upon the Diocese’s approval we will move toward drawing up the plans for what we hope to build in the near future.

5. The Master Plan Committee will now evolve into the Future Build Committee. We would like to have two members from our Hispanic congregation to become members of this Committee. I would like for them to be familiar with some aspect of construction and preferably, if they also speak English. If you do not speak English, but would like to be part of this committee, please, know that you are welcomed and needed. We will have a translator at the meetings of the Committee. Let the Pastor know of your interest by calling the office and leaving your name and contact information. I and the parish really need you!

6. The theme for our Capital Campaign, once it begins is: “Be Not Afraid. We Build By Faith.”

7. Lastly…as we face our future today, let us never underestimate the power of our parish family. Our success depends largely on our unity and our generosity. Yet, our faith in God and in one another is the fire that kindles our determination to desire and for work for the future of our parish family and those that will follow behind us. Please place all our endeavors before the Lord in prayer. What we are about to undertake in our Future Build and our Capital Campaign is a living prayer of trust in God and in one another. And for all of these opportunities, we give thanks to God for allowing us to be part of building up the Kingdom of God.

1. Llevamos a 53 jóvenes al Retiro Franciscano: Asís en Chesapeake. Fue una gran experiencia. Primero fuimos a Washington DC, donde pasamos el día en un par de museos y fuimos a ver la Catedral Nacional. El segundo día lo pasamos en Hershey Park. Eso fue muy divertido. Luego, viajamos al retiro en Maryland desde el viernes por la tarde hasta el domingo. Tan pronto como llegamos a St. Julia a las 11:30 pm, el cielo se abrió y nos azotó una fuerte tormenta, pero no tenemos ninguna queja. Todo salió según lo previsto, lo pasamos genial y gratificante y regresamos
sanos y salvos.

2. En Desde el Corazón ” de la semana pasada hablé sobre retiros y talleres para nuestra comunidad parroquial. Estoy listo para formar dos grupos que organizarán y brindarán estos retiros para la parroquia. Un grupo organizará los retiros en español y el otro grupo organizará los retiros en inglés. Si está interesado en servir a la comunidad siendo miembro de uno de estos comités, llame a la oficina y ofrezca su nombre e información de contacto. ¡No podemos hacerlo sin ti!

3. Como les había informado, este año estamos adoptando un enfoque totalmente diferente para cumplir con nuestra responsabilidad de la Campaña Anual del Obispo. Ya hemos comenzado a invertir dinero para alcanzar nuestra meta. Ahora comenzaremos una segunda colecta mensual para la Campaña Anual del Obispo. Les pido que sean lo más generosos que puedan. Esta segunda colecta es parte de la nueva forma general de recaudar fondos.

4. El Comité del Plan Maestro ahora está listo para enviar a la Diócesis nuestra elección de la firma de arquitectos con la que hemos elegido trabajar. Tras la aprobación de la Diócesis, avanzaremos hacia la elaboración de los planes de lo que esperamos construir en el futuro cercano.

5. El Comité del Plan Maestro ahora evolucionará hacia el Comité de Construcción Futura. Nos gustaría tener dos miembros de nuestra congregación hispana para que sean miembros de este Comité. Me gustaría que estén familiarizados con algún aspecto de la construcción y de preferencia que también hablen inglés. Si no habla inglés, pero le gustaría ser parte de este comité, sepa que es bienvenido y necesario. Contaremos con un traductor en las reuniones del Comité. Hágale saber al pastor su interés llamando a la oficina y dejando su nombre e información de contacto.
¡Yo y la parroquia realmente te necesitamos!

6. El tema de nuestra Campaña Capital, una vez que comience, es: “No teman. Construimos por fe”.

7. Por último … al enfrentar nuestro futuro hoy, nunca subestimemos el poder de nuestra familia parroquial. Nuestro éxito depende en gran medida de nuestra unidad y nuestra generosidad. Sin embargo, nuestra fe en Dios y en los demás es el fuego que enciende nuestra determinación de desear y trabajar por el futuro de nuestra familia parroquial y de aquellos que nos seguirán. Por favor, coloque todos nuestros esfuerzos ante el Señor en oración. Lo que estamos a punto de emprender en nuestra Construcción Futura y nuestra Campaña Capital es una oración viva de confianza en Dios y en los demás. Y por todas estas oportunidades, damos gracias a Dios por permitirnos ser parte de la construcción del Reino de Dios.
