Merry Christmas / Feliz Navidad

Merry Christmas! What a wonderful time of the year, says the song. Indeed, it is. Christmas is a beautiful time and I hope and pray that you really enjoy it. From our Catholic perspective, Christmas time begins on Christmas day and it moves forward all the way to the feast of Our Lord’s Baptism shortly after Epiphany. That takes us into January. While Advent was a time of spiritual preparation for the day of the Incarnation, Christmas time is The Time of celebrating the Incarnation of God in the person of Jesus of Nazareth. The spiritual fruits of our spiritual preparation are now celebrated during the long-anticipated Christmas time. I’m sure that many Christmas trees and decorations will come down during Christmas time. The gifts received may or...

It Feels Like I’m Always Saying, “Thank You.” / Parece que siempre estoy diciendo gracias

It Feels Like I’m Always Saying, “Thank You.” It feels like it because I am saying “thank you” all the time here at St. Julia. My Lord, what a blessing! There are reasons upon reasons upon reasons to say, “thank you.” We are so blessed with the constant and wonderful generosity of so many people in our community. And let me tell you something that is true: our generosity is recognized outside our community. Yes. We have the reputation of being a parish community that is not afraid of work nor sacrifice. We indeed have the reputation of being very responsible in our commitment to our parish and our people. How do I know this? Because I hear it from people in other communities, from priests and...

“Bringing/Taking Christ To-Into The/Our World” / “Llevar a Cristo al mundo”

“Bringing/Taking Christ To-Into The/Our World” This is the phrase that will guide our Advent journey this year. Don’t be confused. Read on. Which one do you prefer? “Bringing Christ to our world?” Bringing Christ to the world?” Bringing Christ into the world? Bringing Christ into our world?”” Taking Christ to the world? Taking Christ to our world?” Taking Christ into our world” Taking Christ into our world?” The changes are subtle. Go ahead and choose one. Make the pick a little retreat for yourself. Which one speaks more to you in the here and now? Make it a real personal choice. Be aware of all the reasons you chose it. Let it take root in your prayers and in your spiritual life. Give it thought. Give it life within you. Let it speak to you. Let it reveal to you its depth and meaning. Let it guide you...

The Season of Advent / Temporada de Adviento

The Season of Advent On Sunday, December 1st we begin the Advent Season. As we all know, Advent is a time of spiritual preparation for the Feast of the Incarnation. Our theme for Advent is “Bringing Jesus into the World.” Our church will be decorated with a banner that depicts a pregnant Mary with a very loving and protecting St. Joseph. The image is meant to inspire our spiritual preparation just as a married couple prepares for the birth of their child. During pregnancy, much care is given to both the mother and the child. I imagine that both parents also prepare psychologically, emotionally, physically, financially, spiritually for the arrival of the new life. Such preparation is a beautiful time in the life of the parents...

A Few New Things /Algunas novedades

A Few New Things Spiritual Growth and Formation Soon I will announce new initiatives and opportunities that we will have available in our parish or our spiritual growth and formation. These new opportunities will be for adults, young adults, high school youth, and our younger children. It is my hope that you will participate in these new opportunities. We can’t just leave things as they are. If we are to grow as a community and as a community of faith, we need to be attentive to the needs of all in our community. For example: We need to develop activities in English for young English-speaking families who are and will be joining the parish. We simply need to reach out to everyone and respond to our present and...
