My Last Petition As Pastor
The “whole” of anything is the sum of its parts. So it is with an individual person, a family, a community, and a parish family.
The parish family of St. Julia has always distinguished itself as a community that is welcoming, open, and cooperative. In reality, this parish is greatly blessed with so many individuals who contribute in so many ways in making us who we are today. Our welcoming openness to everyone, our approach to the diversity that is part of who we are, and our genuine desire for God are characteristics that we have nurtured for years. They live first in our hearts and then they extend to others. Never underestimate the power of an open and welcoming community. Such places make it easier for people to encounter God in many beautiful ways, heal in ways that sometimes escape the gaze of many, and eases the loneliness that some may feel. An open and welcoming community mirrors the heart of God.
Do everything you can to keep it alive among yourselves and in this sacred place.
As you go forward, go forward together. Nurture the spirit of family among the parish members so that whatever lies ahead is faced together. The more united you are, the more success you will have in seeing to it that the parish family maintains its beautiful Catholic Christian identity in word and truth and that your faith community is maintained as a beacon of light and love in the greater local community.
Everything that happens in the life of a parish counts. Everything has meaning and purpose and it should always be at the service of Jesus’ message of peace and liberation from so many negative things that afflict our society and world. Do what you can to create a place of peace and rest here at St. Julia. Make it always a place where everyone feels that they belong and are acknowledged and appreciated. Make it a place of joy and happiness where your children feel comfortable and loved. Make it a place where you can draw strength from one another. Make it a place where it will always be easy for everyone to meet God in the funny disguise of who we are. Let your words always bring comfort to others. May the way you greet each other make everyone feel embraced. Dare always to be respectful and kind with one another. Don’t just walk by or walk away after Mass. Make it your desire to reach out and introduce yourself and meet people you do not know. Make this place sacred and special for yourselves and your families.
The above, is my last petition as pastor. May you always be filled with inner peace so that you can listen to the voice of God within you which speaks as softly as the whisper of a butterfly.

El “todo” de cualquier cosa es la suma de sus partes. Así sucede con una persona, una familia, una comunidad y una familia parroquial.
La familia parroquial de Santa Julia siempre se ha distinguido por ser una comunidad acogedora, abierta y colaboradora. En realidad, esta parroquia está profundamente bendecida con tantas personas que contribuyen de diversas maneras a hacernos quienes somos hoy. Nuestra apertura acogedora hacia todos, nuestra actitud ante la diversidad que forma parte de nuestra identidad y nuestro deseo sincero de Dios son características que hemos cultivado durante años. Estas cualidades viven primero en nuestros corazones y luego se extienden a los demás. Nunca subestimen el poder de una comunidad abierta y acogedora. Tales lugares facilitan que las personas encuentren a Dios de muchas formas hermosas, sanen de maneras que a veces escapan a la mirada de muchos y alivien la soledad que algunos puedan sentir. Una comunidad abierta y acogedora refleja el corazón de Dios.
Hagan todo lo posible por mantener vivo este espíritu entre ustedes y en este lugar sagrado.
Al avanzar, avancen juntos. Cultiven el espíritu de familia entre los miembros de la parroquia para que afronten unidos lo que les depare el futuro. Cuanto más unidos estén, más éxito tendrán en asegurar que la familia parroquial mantenga su hermosa identidad católica cristiana —en palabra y en verdad— y que su comunidad de fe se conserve como un faro de luz y amor para la comunidad local en general.
Todo lo que sucede en la vida de una parroquia cuenta. Todo tiene sentido y propósito, y siempre debe estar al servicio del mensaje de paz y liberación de Jesús frente a tantas cosas negativas que afligen a nuestra sociedad y al mundo. Hagan lo posible por crear un lugar de paz y descanso aquí en Santa Julia. Que sea siempre un lugar donde todos sientan que pertenecen, que son reconocidos y valorados. Que sea un lugar de alegría y felicidad donde sus hijos se sientan cómodos y amados. Que sea un lugar donde puedan fortalecerse mutuamente. Que sea un lugar donde a todos les resulte fácil encontrarse con Dios a través de la peculiar realidad de lo que somos. Que sus palabras siempre brinden consuelo a los demás. Que la forma en que se saludan haga que todos se sientan acogidos. Atrévanse siempre a ser respetuosos y amables los unos con los otros. No se limiten a pasar de largo o marcharse después de la Misa. Propónganse acercarse, presentarse y conocer a personas que no conocen. Hagan de este lugar un sitio sagrado y especial para ustedes y sus familias.
Esta es mi última petición como párroco. Que siempre estén llenos de paz interior para que puedan escuchar la voz de Dios en su interior, la cual habla tan suavemente como el susurro de una mariposa.
