God Before Man / Dios antes que al hombre

Today we hear about something very confusing that Jesus tell us… “If anyone comes to me without hating his mother and father, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.” While this sounds crazy and seems like it goes against the fourth commandment, this reading doesn’t mean He wants us to hate them or reject them. This is Jesus’ way of telling us to love God MORE than anyone or anything else. He is telling us that God should be the most important thing in our lives. Once we choose him, nothing else in our lives can be better than God.
Choose GOD before Man…
Think about it… if everything I do or think, is about getting someone to like me or the things I say, or about the work I do, then honor is the most important thing in my life, not Jesus.
How do I do this? Who IS God that I should put HIM before everything else?
If I spend all my time on family, games, work, hobbies… then THEY become the most important things in my life. Now…. honor and family can be used to serve God, but shouldn’t replace God.
So how do I detach myself from things?
What are some ways I can put God before everything else in my life?
- Make time with God everyday: Set aside time each day specifically for prayer and to connect with God. (see video link below)
- Take away disruptions: Think about the things that I have and do everyday. What defines me? What is keeping me from walking with God? What keeps me from seeking His wisdom? How can I remove those things?.
- Give things up daily: Doing things like fasting or not eating your favorite treat. Give something up each day! This can help me gain control over worldly things. Spiritual purification.
- What I need vs what I want: Understand that I only need the basics (air, water, food, sleep). Try seeing that other things are all “nice-to-haves” rather than something I need.
- Seek God First: Make Him a priority and seek God and His kingdom before anything else in my life.
- Be grateful everyday: Thank others and be grateful for the good things God gives us. Thank Him for each new day we have. It keeps us from being self-centered and to look at others instead.
- Serve others: Serve God and others by praying for them, encouraging them, and do acts of service for others. This can move us away from self-focus.
- Pray to St. Carlo Acutis and St Pier Georgio Frassati who were very young loyal followers of God, in our lifetime! They are inspirations to all young people today.
- Pray to St. Michael in times when it is hard to fight things I know is wrong.

Hoy escuchamos algo muy confuso que Jesús nos dice… “Si alguno viene a mí y no aborrece a su madre y a su padre, e incluso su propia vida, no puede ser mi discípulo”. Aunque esto suene loco y parezca ir en contra del cuarto mandamiento, esta lectura no significa que Él quiera que lo odiemos o lo rechacemos. Así es como Jesús nos dice que amemos a Dios MÁS que a nadie ni a nada. Nos dice que Dios debe ser lo más importante en nuestras vidas. Una vez que lo elegimos, nada en nuestras vidas puede ser mejor que Dios.
Elige a DIOS antes que al hombre…
Piénsalo… si todo lo que hago o pienso se trata de agradarle a alguien, de lo que digo o del trabajo que hago, entonces el honor es lo más importante en mi vida, no Jesús.
¿Cómo lo hago? ¿Quién es Dios para que lo ponga a Él por encima de todo?
Si dedico todo mi tiempo a la familia, los juegos, el trabajo, las aficiones… entonces se convierten en lo más importante de mi vida. Ahora bien… el honor y la familia pueden usarse para servir a Dios, pero no deben reemplazarlo.
Entonces, ¿cómo me desapego de las cosas?
¿De qué maneras puedo poner a Dios por encima de todo lo demás en mi vida?
- Dedica tiempo a Dios todos los días: Reserva un tiempo cada día específicamente para orar y conectar con Dios. (Ver el enlace del video abajo).
- Elimina las distracciones: Piensa en las cosas que tengo y hago a diario. ¿Qué me define? ¿Qué me impide caminar con Dios? ¿Qué me impide buscar su sabiduría? ¿Cómo puedo eliminarlas?
- Renuncia a cosas a diario: Haz cosas como ayunar o no comer tu dulce favorito. ¡Renuncia a algo cada día! Esto puede ayudarme a tener control sobre las cosas mundanas. Purificación espiritual.
- Lo que necesito vs. lo que quiero: Entiende que solo necesito lo básico (aire, agua, comida, dormir). Intenta ver que las demás cosas son solo “bonitas” en lugar de algo que necesito.
- Busca a Dios primero: Priorízalo y busca a Dios y su reino antes que cualquier otra cosa en mi vida.
- Sé agradecido cada día: Agradece a los demás y sé agradecido por las cosas buenas que Dios nos da. Agradécele por cada nuevo día que tenemos. Esto nos ayuda a no ser egocéntricos y a fijarnos en los demás.
- Sirve a los demás: Sirve a Dios y a los demás orando por ellos, animándolos y realizando actos de servicio. Esto puede alejarnos del egocentrismo.
- Reza a San Carlo Acutis y San Pier Georgio Frassati, quienes fueron jóvenes fieles seguidores de Dios en nuestra época. Son una inspiración para todos los jóvenes de hoy.
- Reza a San Miguel en los momentos en que es difícil luchar contra cosas que sé que están mal.
