The Parable of the Two Sons

How many times have you heard someone say they would do something, only to put it off or forget entirely? Or maybe they initially said “no” to helping out, but later felt bad and did it anyway?

Actions speak louder than words, and it is easy to make empty promises when our heart isn’t fully in it. In this week’s reading, we look at what it truly means to follow through with our faith through action, not just words.

The Lesson Behind the Message:

• The Struggle: The Struggle: In our daily lives, it’s easy to say the right things, check the boxes, or present ourselves as faithful on the outside while failing to follow God’s calling in our actions. On the flip side, people who start out off track or make mistakes are often judged, even when they genuinely repent and change their ways.
• The Reminder: God values genuine repentance and obedience over superficial compliance. It isn’t enough to speak with piety or carry a title if our actions don’t reflect love, grace, and obedience to God’s will. God’s grace is always open to those who turn back to Him, no matter where they started.
• The Scripture: As Jesus teaches in Matthew 21:28–31, a father asks his two sons to work in the vineyard. The first says no, but later regrets it and goes. The second says yes, but never goes. Jesus asks, “Which of the two did what his father wanted?” True obedience comes from doing the Father’s will, not just offering fake words.

God looks past our initial hesitation or past mistakes and focuses on the condition of our hearts today. Living a faithful life isn’t about perfection or saying all the right words—it’s about continuously choosing to align our actions with God’s love and direction.

La parábola de los dos hijos

¿Cuántas veces has oído a alguien decir que haría algo, solo para posponerlo u olvidarlo por completo? ¿O tal vez inicialmente se negaron a ayudar, pero luego se sintieron mal y lo hicieron de todos modos?

Los hechos valen más que las palabras, y es fácil hacer promesas vacías cuando no estamos completamente comprometidos. En la lectura de esta semana, analizaremos lo que realmente significa vivir nuestra fe a través de acciones, no solo de palabras.

La lucha: En nuestra vida diaria, es fácil decir lo correcto, cumplir con las expectativas o aparentar fidelidad, pero sin seguir el llamado de Dios con nuestras acciones. Por otro lado, quienes se desvían del camino o cometen errores suelen ser juzgados, incluso cuando se arrepienten sinceramente y cambian su comportamiento.

El recordatorio: Dios valora el arrepentimiento y la obediencia genuinos por encima de la obediencia superficial. No basta con hablar con piedad o tener un título si nuestras acciones no reflejan amor, gracia y obediencia a la voluntad de Dios. La gracia de Dios siempre está disponible para quienes regresan a Él, sin importar su origen.

La Escritura: Como enseña Jesús en Mateo 21:28-31, un padre les pide a sus dos hijos que trabajen en la viña. El primero se niega, pero luego se arrepiente y va. El segundo dice que sí, pero nunca va. Jesús pregunta: “¿Cuál de los dos hizo lo que su padre quería?”. La verdadera obediencia proviene de hacer la voluntad del Padre, no solo de palabras vacías.

Dios mira más allá de nuestras dudas iniciales o errores pasados ​​y se enfoca en la condición de nuestro corazón hoy. Vivir una vida de fe no se trata de perfección ni de decir siempre las palabras correctas, sino de elegir continuamente alinear nuestras acciones con el amor y la guía de Dios.
