True Freedom, Human Dignity, and Consecration of the US to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
As the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, we are given an opportunity to reflect on why this nation was founded in 1776.
Our founders declared that every single human being has sacred, fundamental rights… life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They boldly pointed out that these rights DO NOT exist because a government or an earthly king handed them down, but because “God created us with these rights”.
In our Catholic Christian tradition, we know that true freedom is so much deeper than just “doing whatever we want”. True freedom is the liberty given by God to choose what is good, to serve our neighbors, and to love one another unconditionally.
A Milestone for the Whole Family
For many, the United States is an adopted home. Whether your family has been here for generations or you have just recently arrived, the true meaning of this 250th anniversary belongs to all of us. It is a moment to express profound gratitude for the many blessings, the safety and the community we have found here, while also remembering that as Catholic Christians, our ultimate true citizenship is in Heaven.
To honor this special year, the Bishops of the United States are inviting all Catholics and Christians to participate in a historic event: The Consecration of the United States to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Why the Sacred Heart?
The Sacred Heart of Jesus represents unconditional love, mercy, and absolute unity.
It is our reminder that Christ’s heart beats with equal, infinite love for everyone, regardless of their race, creed, sex, country of origin, or legal background.
When we consecrate our nation to His Heart, we are not only looking back at history or celebrating a major political event, we are bringing our entire country, with all of our unique heartaches, struggles, and hopes, and laying them directly at the feet of Christ. We are asking the Sacred Heart to:
- Protect the God-given dignity of every human person.
- Heal the deep divisions within our country, communities and our culture.
- Bring Peace and strength to our individual homes and families.
- Inspire a deeper, more intentional love for our neighbors.
An Invitation to Unite in Prayer
This consecration is a call to action for ALL believers. It is an invitation to look past what divides us and focus on the Savior who unites us. No matter where your story began, you are a vital part of this country and community, and your prayers are needed.
Join together in prayer as we dedicate the United States to the “unconditional love of Christ”. Let us ask Him to make our hearts more like His.
La verdadera libertad, la dignidad humana y la consagración de los Estados Unidos al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús
A medida que los Estados Unidos se acercan al 250.º aniversario de la Declaración de Independencia, se nos presenta la oportunidad de reflexionar sobre la razón por la cual esta nación fue fundada en 1776.
Nuestros fundadores declararon que todo ser humano posee derechos sagrados y fundamentales: la vida, la libertad y la búsqueda de la felicidad. Señalaron con valentía que estos derechos NO existen porque un gobierno o un rey terrenal los haya otorgado, sino porque “Dios nos creó con estos derechos”.
En nuestra tradición cristiana católica, sabemos que la verdadera libertad es mucho más profunda que simplemente “hacer lo que queramos”. La verdadera libertad es la facultad que Dios nos da para elegir el bien, servir al prójimo y amarnos unos a otros incondicionalmente.
Un hito para toda la familia
Para muchos, los Estados Unidos son un hogar adoptivo. Ya sea que su familia haya estado aquí durante generaciones o que usted haya llegado recientemente, el verdadero significado de este 250.º aniversario nos pertenece a todos. Es un momento para expresar profunda gratitud por las numerosas bendiciones, la seguridad y la comunidad que hemos encontrado aquí, recordando al mismo tiempo que, como cristianos católicos, nuestra verdadera ciudadanía definitiva está en el Cielo.
Para honrar este año especial, los obispos de los Estados Unidos invitan a todos los católicos y cristianos a participar en un acontecimiento histórico: la consagración de los Estados Unidos al Santísimo Corazón de Jesús.
¿Por qué el Sagrado Corazón?
El Sagrado Corazón de Jesús representa el amor incondicional, la misericordia y la unidad absoluta.
Es un recordatorio de que el corazón de Cristo late con un amor igual e infinito por todos, sin importar su raza, credo, sexo, país de origen o situación legal.
Al consagrar nuestra nación a Su Corazón, no solo miramos hacia atrás en la historia ni celebramos un acontecimiento político importante; estamos llevando a nuestro país entero —con todas nuestras penas, luchas y esperanzas particulares— y depositándolo directamente a los pies de Cristo. Pedimos al Sagrado Corazón que:
- Proteja la dignidad que Dios ha dado a cada persona humana.
- Sané las profundas divisiones dentro de nuestro país, nuestras comunidades y nuestra cultura.
- Traiga paz y fortaleza a nuestros hogares y familias.
- Inspire un amor más profundo y consciente hacia nuestro prójimo.
Una invitación a unirse en oración
Esta consagración es un llamado a la acción para TODOS los creyentes. Es una invitación a mirar más allá de lo que nos divide y a centrarnos en el Salvador que nos une. Sin importar dónde haya comenzado tu historia, eres una parte vital de este país y de esta comunidad, y tus oraciones son necesarias.
Unámonos en oración al consagrar los Estados Unidos al «amor incondicional de Cristo». Pidámosle que haga nuestros corazones más semejantes al suyo.
