The Season of Advent

On Sunday, December 1st we begin the Advent Season. As we all know, Advent is a time of spiritual preparation for the Feast of the Incarnation. Our theme for Advent is “Bringing Jesus into the World.” Our church will be decorated with a banner that depicts a pregnant Mary with a very loving and protecting St. Joseph. The image is meant to inspire our spiritual preparation just as a married couple prepares for the birth of their child. During pregnancy, much care is given to both the mother and the child. I imagine that both parents also prepare psychologically, emotionally, physically, financially, spiritually for the arrival of the new life. Such preparation is a beautiful time in the life of the parents and many blessings come along with it.

Blessings also come with our spiritual preparation during Advent as we look forward to celebrating the birth of God as a human being in human history.

So, what will we do to make Advent a special time for us? How can we transform this time into something sacred and turn it into an experience of encounter with God? What can we bring into our spiritual journey, into our prayers, and into the rhythm of life that can remind us that we are living in a special time? What experiences can we create with our
children and families that can help us consider that we all bring Christ’s light into our world? What will we do as
individuals and as a family to make Advent a time of encounter with God?

How will you bring Jesus into the world?

Try to balance your preparation for the Feast of the Incarnation with your preparation for Christmas. Try not to get lost in the crazy spending habits of Christmas that brings so much attention to material things that come and go. Zero in on the meaning of Jesus in your lives and in the lives of your loved ones. If you’re going to spend a lot of money, spend it on preparing a wonderful meal that the family and friends will never forget. Spend it on creating beautiful memories for yourselves and your loved ones. And don’t forget to create something wonderful for someone less fortunate than you. Take your treasures to the Christ that lives in each and every one of us.

La temporada de Adviento

El domingo 1 de diciembre comenzamos la temporada de Adviento. Como todos sabemos, el Adviento es un tiempo de
preparación espiritual para la Fiesta de la Encarnación. Nuestro tema para el Adviento es Traer a Jesús al mundo ”.
Nuestra iglesia estará decorada con un estandarte que representa a una María embarazada con un San José muy
amoroso y protector. La imagen tiene el propósito de inspirar nuestra preparación espiritual, tal como una pareja casada se prepara para el nacimiento de su hijo. Durante el embarazo, se brinda mucho cuidado tanto a la madre como al niño. Me imagino que ambos padres también se preparan psicológica, emocional, física, financiera y espiritualmente para la llegada de la nueva vida. Esta preparación es un momento hermoso en la vida de los padres y muchas bendiciones vienen con ella.

Las bendiciones también vienen con nuestra preparación espiritual durante el Adviento, ya que esperamos celebrar el
nacimiento de Dios como un ser humano en la historia humana.

Entonces, ¿qué haremos para que el Adviento sea un tiempo especial para nosotros? ¿Cómo podemos transformar
este tiempo en algo sagrado y convertirlo en una experiencia de encuentro con Dios? ¿Qué podemos incorporar a
nuestro camino espiritual, a nuestras oraciones y al ritmo de vida que nos recuerde que estamos viviendo en un tiempo
especial? ¿Qué experiencias podemos crear con nuestros hijos y familias que nos ayuden a considerar que todos
llevamos la luz de Cristo a nuestro mundo? ¿Qué haremos como individuos y como familia para hacer del Adviento un
tiempo de encuentro con Dios?

¿Cómo traerás a Jesús al mundo?

Intenta equilibrar tu preparación para la Fiesta de la Encarnación con tu preparación para la Navidad. Intenta no perderte en los locos hábitos de gasto de la Navidad que atraen tanta atención a las cosas materiales que van y vienen. Concéntrate en el significado de Jesús en tu vida y en la de tus seres queridos. Si vas a gastar mucho dinero, gástalo en
preparar una comida maravillosa que la familia y los amigos nunca olviden. Gástalo en crear hermosos recuerdos para
ti y tus seres queridos. Y no olvides crear algo maravilloso para alguien menos afortunado que tú. Lleva tus tesoros al
Cristo que vive en todos y cada uno de nosotros.
