As we approach Holy Week we prepare ourselves to remember our Lord\u2019s suffering and crucifixion. It is a time of lamentation as we remember the cruelty that was heaped upon Him.
\nWe are given the opportunity to open a greater space within us for compassion to take root and for compassion to become a value and practice in our lives.<\/p>\n
As we enter Holy Week allow me to suggest to open your minds and hearts to the suffering of so many in our world.<\/p>\n
The evening news gives us only a selected portion of the suffering that besieges so many people. Sometimes the news doesn\u2019t even do that due to the fact that it focuses on events and not people. It informs us of what is going on, but it doesn\u2019t always inform us how it is affecting the people. Sometimes it does, but not enough, I believe.<\/p>\n
What is the real news?<\/p>\n
Well, that is for each one of us to decide. The truth is that there is much to tell about the real truth of everything that makes the news, knowing that there is so much more that doesn\u2019t make the news yet are important.<\/p>\n
Allow yourselves to unite the suffering of so many people to the suffering of Jesus as you remember his suffering. Bring their agony to the agony of Jesus and make this Holy Week something much more that about yourselves.<\/p>\n
Allow this Holy Week to be a moment of selfless generosity as you pray for the suffering in the world and the agony that is taking place in the lives of so many people. Become a compassionate mediator on their behalf.<\/p>\n
Let the cross take on a special meaning for you this Holy Week. Let it be a reminder of the crosses that humanity carries and let the mystery of the cross enter your hearts so that it may purify it for greater selflessness and compassionate generosity.<\/p>\n
May Our Lord bless you as you enter the Holiest Week of the Year. May you consider it all in the light of the Resurrection which brings us hope.

Al acercarnos a la Semana Santa, nos preparamos para recordar el sufrimiento y la crucifixi\u00f3n de nuestro Se\u00f1or. Es un tiempo de lamento, al recordar la crueldad que se ensa\u00f1\u00f3 con \u00c9l.
\nSe nos brinda la oportunidad de abrir un espacio m\u00e1s amplio en nuestro interior para que la compasi\u00f3n eche ra\u00edces y se convierta en un valor y una pr\u00e1ctica en nuestras vidas.<\/p>\n
Al adentrarnos en la Semana Santa, perm\u00edtanme sugerirles que abran sus mentes y sus corazones al sufrimiento de tantas personas en nuestro mundo.<\/p>\n
Las noticias vespertinas nos muestran solo una parte selecta del sufrimiento que asedia a tanta gente. A veces, las noticias ni siquiera logran eso, debido a que se centran en los acontecimientos y no en las personas. Nos informan de lo que est\u00e1 sucediendo, pero no siempre nos informan de c\u00f3mo ello est\u00e1 afectando a la gente. A veces lo hacen, pero no lo suficiente, a mi parecer.<\/p>\n
\u00bfCu\u00e1les son las verdaderas noticias?<\/p>\n
Bueno, eso es algo que cada uno de nosotros debe decidir. La verdad es que hay mucho que contar sobre la realidad profunda de todo aquello que acapara los titulares, sabiendo que existe mucho m\u00e1s que no llega a las noticias, pero que, sin embargo, es importante.<\/p>\n
Perm\u00edtanse unir el sufrimiento de tantas personas al sufrimiento de Jes\u00fas mientras recuerdan el suyo propio. Lleven la agon\u00eda de ellos ante la agon\u00eda de Jes\u00fas y hagan de esta Semana Santa algo mucho m\u00e1s grande que un asunto centrado \u00fanicamente en ustedes mismos.<\/p>\n
Permitan que esta Semana Santa sea un momento de generosidad desinteresada, mientras oran por los que sufren en el mundo y por la agon\u00eda que se vive en las vidas de tantas personas. Convi\u00e9rtanse en mediadores compasivos en favor de ellos.<\/p>\n
Permitan que la cruz adquiera un significado especial para ustedes en esta Semana Santa. Que sea un recordatorio de las cruces que carga la humanidad, y permitan que el misterio de la cruz penetre en sus corazones para purificarlos, conduci\u00e9ndolos hacia un mayor desprendimiento y una generosidad compasiva.<\/p>\n
Que nuestro Se\u00f1or los bendiga al adentrarse en la Semana m\u00e1s santa del a\u00f1o. Que puedan contemplarlo todo a la luz de la Resurrecci\u00f3n, la cual nos trae esperanza.
