Today we learn about what it is like to be a rich man. We have all dreamed of being rich! What we would do with all of our money… what we would buy first….<\/strong><\/p>\nUnfortunately, this is not a reality for most humans on this planet, so in the story Lazarus and the Rich Man, we see ourselves as the poor man.<\/p>\n
But are we really?<\/p>\n
This is a story about two good men.<\/p>\n
The rich man lived a good life. He had everything he needed to provide for himself a comfortable life. He wasn’t rich like a prince or tax collector. But he was comfortable. He pays no attention to family, friends or others unless it is necessary. Although it is not mentioned if he was a faithful man, we must assume he did believe in God.<\/p>\n
Lazarus was very poor, probably homeless, and definitely a beggar. He often stayed at the gate of a rich man in hopes of getting scraps from his table. He was often sick and had sores on his body. In some depictions, Lazarus was a simple person who was overlooked and ignored by the rich man and others in his comfortable life.<\/p>\n
In the story, Lazarus and the rich man die. Lazarus goes to heaven, and the rich man went to hell.<\/p>\n
Since the rich man separated himself from everyone while alive, he has been separated from everyone for eternity. He did not take care or show concern for others when he was alive, so he did not serve anyone but himself.<\/p>\n
SERVING OTHERS IS SERVING GOD.<\/strong><\/p>\n Jesus tells this story to the Pharisees, to explain to them that they are blinded by their own wants and needs, as well as the expectations they put on the Jewish people.<\/p>\n When you don’t care for others, you disconnect yourself from God and will be alone, even before you die.<\/p>\n We learn in this parable that God has paths for us. We must live life looking toward God everyday in order to find what these paths are. He places us in situations to help others, to lead others and to serve others. No prestaba atenci\u00f3n a su familia, amigos ni a los dem\u00e1s a menos que fuera necesario. Aunque no se menciona si era un hombre fiel, debemos asumir que cre\u00eda en Dios.<\/p>\n L\u00e1zaro era muy pobre, probablemente sin hogar y definitivamente un mendigo. A menudo se quedaba en la puerta de un hombre rico con la esperanza de conseguir migajas de su mesa. A menudo estaba enfermo y ten\u00eda llagas en el cuerpo.
