Instead sit at a lower place at the table. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted… When you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you.” Luke 14:1, 7-14

He reminds us of the importance of Humility in our lives. To think of others first and not get caught-up in things that won’t matter tomorrow.

We always think that life is about what we want or deserve. Toys, games, clothes, foods, rewards for doing good deeds… these things hide who we truly are in God, and how we should be living. It leads us to want more and more of these things and make us feel afraid of losing our things. This can lead us to a dark place…

Contrary to what life on earth teaches, it is good to think less of ourselves, so we can focus on what is more important in life. If we are worrying about what others think all the time, what things we do or do not have, or even compare ourselves to others all the time, we are putting ourselves as the center of attention. In the seat of honor at the table. And at some time, we will be asked to move to a lower place, leaving us embarrassed.

Instead, put yourself in a humble seat at the table… where you can enjoy life, the banquet and those around you that matter most… including God’s love.

What are some ways you can be more humble in your life?

Practice gratitude: Be thankful and thank God and others for the gifts in your life. Even moments we share with others.

Perform acts of service and self denial: Helping others in many ways, but also giving up something so someone else can have it.

Listen to others: Listen with full attention of the heart and mind.

Practice patience: Allow others to go first, and delay your own satisfaction, will build patience and self-denial.

Think of others first.

Recognize your dependence on God: Pray

Accept yourself as you are!

Check out these fun video links below to hear more!
