The term \u201cEucharist\u201d originates from the Greek word <em>eucharistia<\/em>, meaning thanksgiving.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In the celebration of the Eucharist, the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit and the instrumentality of the priest. The whole Christ is truly present &#8212; body, blood, soul, and divinity &#8212; under the appearances of bread and wine, the glorified Christ who rose from the dead. This is what the Church means when she speaks of the &#8220;Real Presence&#8221; of Christ in the Eucharist. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usccb.org\/eucharist#:~:text=The%20Eucharist%20is%20the%20source,Greek%20word%20eucharistia%2C%20meaning%20thanksgiving.&amp;text=In%20the%20celebration%20of%20the,the%20instrumentality%20of%20the%20priest.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(USCCB 2025)<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Eucharist is mentioned many times in the bible and is celebrated daily in the Catholic Church.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Jesus gives himself to us in the Eucharist as spiritual nourishment because he loves us. By eating the Body and drinking the Blood of Christ in the Eucharist, we become united to the person of Christ through his humanity. &#8220;Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him&#8221; (Jn 6:56). In being united to the humanity of Christ, we are at the same time united to his divinity. This sacrament, the one we receive most often throughout our lives, is the source of great graces that sanctify us and help us grow in the likeness of Jesus Christ. The Sacrament of Holy Communion is also sometimes called the Eucharist.<\/p>\n<p>At Saint Julia Catholic Church, any youth between the ages 8 and 12 who have already received their Sacrament of Baptism, are invited to register for their First Communion catechism using the form below.
