<\/span>The Feast of Saints Peter and Paul<\/strong> is celebrated on June 29th, with its origins dating back to the third century, 258 AD. Even though the exact dates of their deaths are not known, it commemorates the martyrdom of the two apostles in Rome.<\/p>\nSimon, known later as Peter was a fisherman who followed Jesus as one of His original 12 apostles. He was given the name Peter (rock), on which the foundation of the Church would be built. Peter was the first Pope of the Catholic Church.<\/p>\n
Saul of Tarsus, known later as Paul, was a Pharisee who had persecuted many early Christians, but was later converted by a direct encounter with the resurrected Jesus on the road to Damascus. He spent his life traveling on to convert many.<\/p>\n
Both men began supporting the writings of the books we know today as the New Testament.<\/p>\n
