With the approval of the Pastor, both Councils agreed with the recommendation of the Master Plan Committee and now the cost for the Master Plan, schematic and elevation design, and the civil/site sketch plan will go before the Finance Council for approval. Once the Finance Council approves paying the cost, it will go to the Diocese for final approval. The cost will be $40,000.00. It is important to realize that without this, we cannot move forward.

We will now create a Building Master Plan Committee that will work with the architectural firm in defining the needs of the parish that the building of a multi-use parish social center and education building will have to meet. It is estimated that the general master plan, schematic and elevation design, and the civil/site sketch plan will take between 12 and 15 weeks to finish. It will be a design that we will be able to adjust before the final design is completed. Before the final design is completed, the parish community will be able to see the design and we will create ways for the parish community to offer their opinions and concerns. Please remember that we are not building a church/worship space.

Some may question why not build a larger church and use the present church as the parish hall. The truth is that the present church/worship space is not large enough for a multi-purpose parish hall. The Master Plan Committee completed a laborious self-study of our present and future needs. The conclusion was that the wisest way to go forward was to build a multi-use parish hall that would meet the needs of a growing parish and an educational building that would do the same. This plan was presented to the Diocese and it was approved. So, forward we go!

We will also launch a Capital Campaign and create a Capital Campaign Committee that will address the raising of funds for the future build. We will share more information with the parish as we develop the plan and strategies. We will also go to the parish community to ask for your ideas and suggestions. This entire endeavor necessitates the collaboration of the entire parish community.

“Be Not Afraid” is the motto for our building and capital campaign. The Lord walks with us and we are not afraid of the task that lies before us. Twenty two years ago when St. Julia parish was a very small community, raising $900,000 for a new church seemed almost overwhelming, but they did it. Today, we benefit from their courage, their faith, and their sacrifices. And, so, shall it be with us as we look to our future. Surely, the cost will be between six and eight million dollars. But let us not be afraid. We cannot be afraid. We will go forward together and with faith, determination, and love for our faith community, we will be successful for the love of God.

It wasn’t that long ago that I directed the Pastoral Council to create a committee to put together a Master Plan. Thanks to the leadership and hard work of David Walters and Richard Szary we presented an exemplary self-study to the diocese that garnered many compliments. Honestly speaking, we would not be where we are today in this process if it wasn’t for David and Richard. I, personally, owe them much and I am forever grateful for their excellent service to the parish community. They, both, also led an expanded committee to consider and interview the architectural firms that expressed interest in our project together with Melton Hardy-Powell, president of the Pastoral Council, Greg Lask, member of the Finance Council, and Robert Alberini, a friend and benefactor of St. Julia. As we now move to the next phase, we will create the Building Committee and the Capital Campaign Committee. The work of both committees will be essential to our success. We will be inviting individuals to become part of these committees.

Let us not be afraid! We have so much talent and goodwill among us.
