We may forget God, walk away from God’s ways, and become numb to God’s presence within us, but “nothing can separate us from the love of God” as Holy Scripture also reveals to us.
In God we live, move, and have our being.

We can turn this Advent into an adventure wherein we rediscover ourselves in God Himself. Where we renew our willing desire for God as a loving response to what God invites us to experience.

God wishes nothing higher than for us to feel His presence in our lives and for us to unite our will to His, not as an obligation or as a desire of wanting something for ourselves, but as a loving desire to the love that God consistently shares with us. It should never be a willful desire for God but as a willing desire to respond freely with love, faith, and trust to the will of God.

There is a big difference between being willful and being willing.

Being willful is all about us and what I want to do and can do. The emphasis is on our abilities.

Willingness is all about attentiveness to God’s invitations to us and willingly allow God to be the center of our attention and desire. Willingness is about cooperation with God, not out of obligation but rather out of love and trust. As long as we are simply willful, even with the best of intention, the focus is on us.

Willingness places the focus on God, God’s invitations, and God’s graces to respond willingly, freely, and lovingly to God’s will. It’s the only way that we can unite our wills to God’s will. Love is the way, the reason, and the means to unite our wills to God’s desires for us.

In Mary we see this perfectly. The only way to have responded so generously to God’s invitation to become the Mother of the Divinity made human flesh, was to willingly and lovingly unite her will to God’s will. Her response to God’s will did not come from a self-centered willfulness, but from a free, conscious, generous, and loving willingness to unite her will to God’s will.

May this Advent season be a time for us to realize that what is essential in maturing spiritually and in maturing in our relationship with God doesn’t lie in willfulness but rather in loving willingness to choose God and God’s will.
Thus will we unite our will to God’s will as a loving response to the love that God offers us.
May our Advent journey be holy and full of life and joy for us all.

Peace and Good. Friar Julio

Voluntariamente, despertaremos a Dios.

Paz y Bien.
